Monochrome is one of the oldest, most reliable outfit tricks in the fashion book. When you’re feeling like your wardrobe is turning against you, it’s safer and easier just to throw on a simple, black skirt or jeans and pair with a white top and some kind of black accessory (like a felt hat or a scarf) and walk out the door. You’ll instantly feel stylish and chic without having to try too hard. Not to mention, it’s a colour combo that suits every skin tone and hair colour, will go with everything in your wardrobe (yes, even that bright, red handbag you never use) and can shed kilos off your figure when done right (which, let’s face it, isn’t hard to do).
The monochrome look is super easy to achieve, because it can be done with wardrobe staples you likely already own:
Black skinny-leg jeans ✔️
White blouse? ✔️
Black blazer? ✔️
And voila… You’re on your way!
For most of my fave black and white looks I also usually try to add a twist, like a lacy, black bra under a white blouse… The below OOTD is generally my go-to outfit for lunch or dinner with friends, after-work drinks or any event requiring a more corporate, but still chic look. You could probably even get away with this one at the office.
HINT: A classic white blouse is like good girlfriends; you need at least one in your life! (This one from Tobi.com/au is a fave of mine right now.)
I’m wearing: Tobi ‘Loveletter ivory chiffon blouse’ AU$39 (Tobi now does free shipping to Aus!), Theory blazer bought on sale from Nordstrom Rack in the U.S., old Country Road wet-look jeans, Rag & Bone boots and Rebecca Minkoff bag both from Shopbop.
How do YOU wear monochrome?
