It’s a pearl thing: How to style the hottest new trend

Embellishment has obviously been around forever, but I never thought I’d see the day boyfriend jeans and shoes were dotted with pearls! For so long, the pearl has been considered an old-lady trend for those with a respected social status, but now they’ve been given a modern, cool-girl makeover. It all started with Gucci (as everything wonderful does), with their amazing pearl-embellished loafers, belts, sneakers and bags. Now other, more affordable brands are catching on.

NEED: Gucci pearl mid-heel loafers.

The pearl embellishment trend can be pulled off by anyone for pretty much any occasion. Don’t think you have to wear them with your Chanel tweed jacket and kitten heels (hello, the 1940s called, they want their looks back). There’s no need to reserve pearls for dressy occasions – you can mix them with your casual daywear to up your outfit ante. They’ll give your look an instant spark, as ladylike as they are chic and edgy.

Check out how I style my own pearl-embellished items…
